‘Pésame dello… (I am sorry…)’ is the fourth movement of Escarramán, A Suite of Spanish Dances from the XVI Century (after Cervantes) by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco. The piece was inspired by Miguel de Cervantes’ entremeses, a theatrical collection where the author depicts characters and daily life situations of his time in an ironic way.
This slow movement interrupts the sarcastic nature of the previous ones to recreate an introspective atmosphere, which reminds us of Renaissance fantasies.
